Methods for prolonging the service life of slurry pump flow parts can be considered from three aspects: slurry pump selection, use, and daily maintenance. The following are some methods that can prolong the service life of slurry pump flow parts:
I. Choose the right pump
Select according to medium characteristics: Fully understand the physical and chemical characteristics of the slurry to be transported, including particle size, concentration, acidity and alkalinity, hardness, abrasiveness, etc., and select flow part materials with corresponding wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant properties, such as high-chromium alloys, ceramics, or corrosion-resistant alloy materials.
Select according to operating parameters: Consider the operating parameters of the slurry pump, such as flow rate, head, and rotational speed, to ensure that the selected flow parts can work normally under the given operating conditions. For example, in the case of high head and large flow rate, select flow parts(volute iner, impeller, throatbush, frame plate liner insert) with higher strength and better wear resistance.
II. Correct Use Aspect
Avoid cavitation: Keep the inlet pressure of the pump stable and sufficient, and avoid cavitation caused by too low inlet pressure. The inlet pressure can be increased by optimizing the suction pipe design, reducing the suction pipe resistance, and increasing the height of the suction liquid level. Cavitation can cause severe damage to the surface of the flow parts and greatly shorten their service life.
Prevent running without fluid: Ensure that there is always sufficient medium during the operation of the slurry pump, and avoid idling or dry running. Before starting the pump, check whether the suction pipe is filled with liquid; during the operation, prevent the suction pipe from being blocked or the liquid supply from being interrupted. Dry running will cause the flow parts to heat up rapidly, resulting in high-temperature wear and even damage to the impeller and pump casing.
III. Daily Maintenance Aspect
Regular cleaning: Regularly clean the flow parts of the slurry pump to remove deposits, scale, and debris attached to the surface. The cleaning frequency depends on the nature of the slurry and the operating environment, and it can generally be carried out during shutdown maintenance periods.
Lubrication and cooling: Ensure good lubrication of the bearings of the slurry pump with rotating parts such as bearings. Appropriate lubrication can reduce the friction and heat generation of the bearings and indirectly protect the flow parts. In some special slurry pump designs, it may be necessary to cool the flow parts to reduce their working temperature, reduce wear, and thermal stress.
Wear monitoring: Regularly check the wear of the flow parts. Evaluate the wear degree by measuring the dimensional changes of components such as the impeller and pump casing or by using non-destructive testing techniques. According to the wear monitoring results, replace severely worn flow parts in a timely manner to avoid equipment failures caused by excessive wear.
